Yesterday (when I wrote this it was yesterday – took a while to post) was the perfect Sunday, Ryan went to the gym while I did the bulk of the food prep for the week ahead and sorted out the washing (all fun stuff), we then headed over to my MoH’s house and I spent some quality time with my adorable Flower Girl, familiarising myself with The Gruffalo and all the sounds you encounter on a Bear Hunt. In the afternoon we took the short drive to our venue (I call it ‘our’ venue like we own it – sadly not), The Elvetham, for their Wedding Showcase and then over to my parents for dinner and games.
The Elvetham had previously held an Open Day which we went along to back in October but it had been a few months since we’d seen it and so we (I) were super keen to pop along to the showcase. It was a horrid, wet and grim day but it still looked beautiful – yes, I am starting to worry about the weather on the day. I seem to wake up each morning and the first thing on my mind, or the dream I drift out of, is wedding day related. As nice as the building is at The Elvetham, the grounds are what really make it and so we’re crossing all of our fingers and toes for no rain, and if the weather gods feel like being kind maybe a little sunshine 🙂
It was really busy with newly engaged couples and beaming faces behind lots of different stalls. This was my first proper wedding showcase and it was nice that Ryan was there too, I think he actually enjoyed it! The showcases give you a really good opportunity to meet suppliers versus finding them on the internet and emailing. As I mentioned in a previous blog, every thing you read says that it is important to have a rapport with your supplier and the showcases really support that.
Not only was I excited to be at my first proper Wedding Showcase with Ryan, but one of the cake suppliers I had been emailing on and off was going to be there. I had been awful at communicating with her previously and she had been superbly patient and proactive, following up with me and answering my stupid questions! We had an appointment with another cake supplier (one who we’ve ordered from before) booked for the following weekend so hadn’t planned on making any decisions but when we met Tina from Cookie Creations we both loved her. Not only did her display cakes look amazing, but she was so warm and friendly and filled us with confidence (she also gave us a free cake to take away which was bloody amazing!). Ryan’s next comment surprised me a little, being that he isn’t particularly decisive – “We should book her”. I changed my mind on our cake design twice before actually meeting Tina, and the design that I showed her at the Showcase was completely different to everything else that we had discussed and her enthusiasm towards the new design made me very excited! Tina really made a great impression and we are so excited to see how our ideas for our Wedding cake materialise ♥
We also stopped and chatted with Wedding Ring jewellers and Ryan tried on a few different bands. He isn’t keen on silver so it looks as though he may go for a tungsten black matte band – we just need to find somewhere that stocks them so he can see what he thinks when it’s actually on his finger. I tried on a couple of diamond bands and they looked so pretty with my engagement ring – eeeeek!
Since we already had our Photographer, Videographer, my Dress / Bridesmaid Dresses there wasn’t too much for us to look at but we did decide which of the 2 Bridal Suites we would like for our Wedding Night. The room is so beautiful and the bathroom is just AMAZING (it’s a bit of a shame we won’t have much time to enjoy it – we’ll have to stay the night for our 1 year anniversary!) It overlooks the grounds where we’ll be getting married and I can imagine sitting in the bay window once I’m ready looking and watching as our guests arrive and head down to the Summer House … eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!
Mum, Becky and I are headed to another Showcase next weekend at Tylney Hall – this one is going to be a little bigger and I’m super excited for Becky to becoming along too! Weekends are going quicker than ever, there is always somewhere to go, something to research or something to do … it really is the most fun ♥
